Helping you to fight depression
All of us may experience challenges in our lives which leave us feeling a little sad, but depression is more than just feeling a little sad, it is more of experiencing a low mood over a much longer period of time.
Depression can be triggered by major changes in our lives, such as:-
- Separation or divorce
- Bereavement
- Job loss or redundancy
- Retirement
- Bereavement
- A serious illness or health challenge
- Experiencing a traumatic event
If you are suffering from depression, your experience of this will be different from other individual’s experience, but you may be finding that it is affecting the relationship you have with people around you, loved ones, other family members, friends, work colleagues and getting in the way of living your life and doing your job, but many people leave it too long before asking for help and support.
You may be feeling like a black cloud is following you around, but may also be experiencing some of these other feelings :-
- Increased feelings of stress
- Low self-esteem
- Anxiety
- An inability to act positively and perhaps having increasingly negative feelings
- An inability to focus or concentrate
- Irritation with others
- No longer enjoying life
- No motivation
- A feeling of isolation from friends and family
- Seeing it affecting your work-life/job
- Losing interest in hobbies and other interests
- Sometimes thoughts of self-harm or suicidal thoughts
You may be feeling afraid that this is as good as it gets, but depression does not need to be or to feel like a life sentence, and although there are no quick solutions, one-to-one counselling will allow you a safe space, one in which you will not be judged, and a place to help you start to understand your feelings, to find some acceptance and the strength and means to fight your depression.
